When Samantha Woo was a young girl, she would collect leftover fabric scraps from her mother’s sewing bench. “Growing up in Vietnam, fashion apparels and accessories were a luxury for us,” Woo explains. “I remember I would collect all the leftover fabric trying to imitate [my mother’s] work, making dolls or tiny clothes out of the material.”
She shares, “Not until adulthood did I realize that this could be my career.”
And that’s exactly what she did. Woo would go on to study fashion at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and receive her Masters of Fine Art from Mississippi College. Now a successful bridal gown designer, Woo lives in Jackson with her husband, Dr. Mack Woo, and her two young boys.
Using only the finest of fabrics, Woo creates gorgeous gowns for the modern bride. Samantha shares, “I love to manipulate fabrics into organic shapes that flatter all bodies.” Her new collection is expected to debut in the fall of 2014. She describes her new pieces as “whimsical, romantic, classical and graceful.” Woo tells us, “ The Woo Couture bride is full of grace and sophistication. She is trendy, quirky, contemporary, classic and elegant.”
In addition to her bridal line, Woo offers a variety of bridesmaid dresses as well. She also creates custom dresses for brides and bridesmaid for the bride who really wants to be one-of-a-kind. “Whatever element the bride desires in a one-of-a-kind wedding gown will enhance her unique charm on her wedding day,” Samantha explains.
