Each summer, the river town of Vicksburg, Mississippi transforms into a land of crowns and sparkling beauty as the Miss Mississippi Pageant comes to town. This June, local businesses and citizens alike will welcome the festivities as they celebrate all the Miss Mississippi Pageant stands for.
Miss Mississippi began in 1934 and Vicksburg has been the host city for the last 59 years of the competition. Four Miss Mississippi winners have gone on to be crowned Miss America: Mary Ann Mobley (1959), Lynda Lead Mead (1960), Cheryl Prewitt (1960) and Susan Akin (1986). The Miss America Corporation is the leading scholarship provider for women throughout the country and for many years, the Miss Mississippi Corporation has led the nation in the amount of scholarships granted.
The 2017 Miss Mississippi Pageant will be held on June 21-24, with preliminary competition being held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 8:00 p.m. The televised pageant will take place on Saturday, June 24, at 8:00 p.m. Don’t miss a chance to experience Vicksburg, “The Key to the South,” in all its revelry and celebrate the state’s finest young women.
